As an Au Pair in Chile you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in Latin American culture and become part of society by living in a family with children. As an Au Pair in Chile you will not only have unforgettable moments, but also develop self-reliance and self-esteem, and you can grow personally and make new friends.
From your host family you will get accommodation in a single room and full board, in addition you will receive a monthly pocket money as a small financial cushion for personal expenses and leisure activities.
We will place you as an Au Pair in one of our carfully selected host families in Chile. Not only do we visit the families at their homes (Santiago area only), we also ask them about their expectations and needs to ensure that the Au Pair and host family are the perfect match.
Our host families are spread throughout the country, but most live in the greater Santiago area. As an Au Pair, you will mainly take care of the children and you will also help with chores in the household. Foreign languages play a major role, as most children either attend a bilingual school or are educated bilingually from home. So, it is important that you share your language and culture with your host family.

- playing, singing, doing handicraft etc. with the children
- helping with homework
- going for walks / to the playground / doing outdoor activities with the children

How many children do I have to look after? How old are they?
From babies and toddlers to teens at the age of 14, anything is possible. Most families looking for an Au Pair have several children. Our host families‘ profiles are very diverse, they have between one and four children.
When do I have to pay the placement fee?
To start the placement process, we charge a registration fee. You do not have to pay the placement fee for your Au Pair program until you and a suitable host family have been matched. To book your Au Pair placement, you have to pay then the placement fee.
How does the application process work?
As soon as we have received your application, we will translate your documents and will create your internal application profile. We use this profile to screen our family database for suitable host families and will introduce you to them. Please note that we also need a character reference and, if you have previous experience, a childcare reference for a successful placement. Documents like the police background check, medical certificate, travel insurance can be submitted later during the placement process. The placement procedure itself takes between four and 12 weeks. During this time we will be in constant contact with you to keep you posted and to be available for your questions. Once we have found a host family, we coordinate a video call (skype or facetime) between you and the host family so that you can get to know each other. If both your and the family confirm the „match“, we go to the booking procedure and send you the placement agreement. For booking purposes the placement fee will then be due.
More information can be found here: Registration process
Will I get to know the family in advance?
A virtual meeting via skype or facetime between you and the host family is an integral part of our placement process before you book your pair program, to make sure we have found the perfect match for you.
Is the Au Pair expected to cook and clean for the family?
An Au Pair is not a housekeeper, but primarily responsible for childcare. Simple tasks in the household such as tidying up, vacuuming, ironing the children's clothes or preparing meals for the children can be secondary tasks.
Which language skills are required?
Depending on the family, good Spanish and/or English skills are desired. Your Spanish should be at least at a basic level. We will be happy to arrange a Spanish course for you so that you can improve your language skills quickly. This will also help you to get around easily on your own during your freetime. You can do the Spanish course in Chile before or alongside your Au Pair job, depending on your work schedule.
Are there any age limits to work as an Au Pair?
We require a minimum age of 18 years. There is no maximum, as long as your physical and mental fitness allow working as an Au Pair. The majority of our Au Pairs is between 18 and 40 years old. However, we also place "Granny Au Pairs"!
I don’t have any childcare references. Can I still apply?
Of course! Our job is to find the perfect match for you! We can also place Au Pairs without previous chilcare experience. In this case please provide two very detailed character references.
Is the airfare and travel insurance included in the program costs?
Chile Inside takes care of your placement in a suitable host family and the in-country support. The host family gives you free board and a room as well as a pocket money.
The costs for your flight and travel insurance must be borne by yourself.
