Learn Spanish in Santiago de Chile |
|
The LessonsThe language school offers high quality Spanish courses for people at all stages of learning the language. Each of the teachers has a University degree as well as extensive professional experience teaching Spanish as a foreign language. Most of the teachers speak other languages in addition to Spanish since many of them have lived and worked abroad for an extended period of time. The students in group courses are divided into different levels (basic, intermediate and advanced) based on their previous knowledge and understanding of Spanish assessed through a small test taken either online before arrival or on the first day of class. This ensures cohesive learning and progress of the language skills for all of the individuals in each group. The course material is provided by the language school. On the first day, students will receive the class material corresponding to their level containing numerous grammar exercises complemented by worksheets and examples. The classes focus on three different areas of language comprehension. Students will learn the fundamental grammar rules and then apply them in writing and conversational exercises. This teaching method ensures that students practice and apply the principles they have learned. In addition, communication among the group is improved while each student gains a boost of confidence using the foreign language in real life. The language school is also a social gathering point for many of the students. During coffee breaks, teachers encourage students to communicate with their classmates, facilitating the creation of lifelong friendships! Coffee, tea, water and cookies are provided in the common areas during each break and a room with eight computers enables the students to browse the internet at their disposal. A karaoke machine can also be used to practice Spanish by singing songs with other classmates and teachers. These breaks and additional activities form an important part of the learning process for students as they become more comfortable in their settings and amongst new friends. The Spanish courses take place throughout the whole year and always begin on Mondays. No matter the Spanish level, we always recommend that students take at least a few weeks of courses so that they are able to become accustomed to the Spanish that is used in Chile. Spanish is an essential language in today’s global society, so the more Spanish a person knows; the more competitive he or she will be in the professional world! The CoursesThe Group Course consists of 20 lessons per week (45 minutes each) and contains a maximum of six students in each class to guarantee individual attention and fast progress. The Intensive Course is made up of the Group Course (20 group lessons per week) plus 10 Private classes (45 minutes each) per week. In the Private classes, students can expand on their knowledge obtained in the Group Course by reviewing complex material while eliminating personal weaknesses. The Private Course consists of 10 or 20 one-on-one lessons per week (45 minutes each). In these lessons, the material is tailored to the student’s abilities and expectations allowing the teacher to adapt each lesson to the student’s individual learning speed.
Extracurricular ActivitiesIn the afternoons after classes and on the weekends, the language school regularly organizes extracurricular activities for a small additional cost allowing students to go to new places in or out of the city, get to know other students as well as learn about the Chilean culture. These excursions and cultural activities also give the students a chance to apply their acquired language skills outside of the classroom. Especially popular excursions include day trips to Viña del Mar, Valparaíso and to Pablo Neruda's house in Isla Negra on the Pacific Coast. Also hiking trips, skiing tours and wine tastings are enjoyed by many of the students. Free afternoon activities take place directly in the language school almost every day. These include watching movies followed by discussions as well as conversation classes.
Part-time volunteer work: For our Spanish students, we have created a new program that combines the Spanish course with volunteer work. The program consists of a Spanish Course (Group Course or Private Course) in the mornings and then volunteering two to four afternoons per week. This allows you to practice your newly acquired Spanish skills in real life situations and put your free time to use for a good cause helping where assistance is most needed. AccommodationThe students will either stay in a single room with a host family or in shared apartments. We try to locate your "Chilean home" as close to the school as possible in order to save you walking time. We will be pleased to also arrange you double bedrooms. Prices and Services
